Tinder Tall Tale: Montco Sex Assault Was Not Via App

Tinder played no part in the recent sexual assault, police said, which has "generated a great deal of community fear."

CHELTENHAM, PA — Contrary to initial reports, Tinder played no part in the recent sexual assault of a woman at a local apartment complex, police said. The incident has "generated a great deal of community fear," according to authorities, but it is not believed that there is a public safety issue.

The victim of the sexual assault initially told police that she was waiting to meet a Tinder date in the parking lot of Lynnewood Garden Apartments on Oct. 1 when a man attacked her from behind.

Further investigation revealed that the woman was not telling the full truth, and that the she actually was an acquaintance of the man who assaulted her, police said. She was not using Tinder at the time and had not been lured to that specific location.
