Woman Struck By SEPTA Train In Abington, But Survives: Cops

A woman was struck and severely injured by a SEPTA train in Abington late Friday night, officials confirmed.

ABINGTON, PA -- A woman was struck and severely injured by a SEPTA train in Abington late Friday night, officials confirmed.

The incident occurred at about 11:30 p.m. on the 220 block of Mt. Carmel Avenue in the Glenside section of the township, police said.

Authorities responded to a call to find the victim, a 35-year-old woman, lying on the tracks and injured badly.

Police said that it appears the woman was walking along the tracks when she was accidentally hit by the train from behind.

The victim was taken to Abington Hospital where she is being treated for a wide variety of injuries. Despite the severity of the incident, she is expected to survive, police said.
