Year In Review 2024: Businesses That Opened, Closed In Eastern Montco

EASTERN MONTGOMERY COUNTY, PA —Amazon Fresh finally started opening stores that looked like they would never open. Several chicken chains set up shop. And some popular eateries closed without warning.

As 2024 comes to a close, Patch took a look back at some of the business comings and goings of the past year in Eastern Montgomery County.

Amazon Fresh Opens 5th PA Store in Willow Grove

Amazon Fresh opened its fifth store in Pennsylvania —and first in Montgomery County —with its new location near the Willow Gover Park Mall in early November. The 31,000-square-foot store is located at 102 Park Ave., across the street from the Willow Grove Park Mall. (Read More)

Farm and Fisherman, Friendly's Close In Horsham

Two longtime Horsham Township establishments have closed up shop. Farm and Fisherman Tavern on 575 Horsham Road closed on July 1 and the Friendly's restaurant on Route 611 also closed in early July. The Farm and Fisherman property remains vacant. (Read More)

MaGerks, Nifty Fifty's Expand Into Bucks County

In February, MaGerk’s Pub & Grill, the popular eatery with locations in Horsham and Fort Washington, announced plans to expand into Bucks County and also open another restaurant in Montgomery County. Meanwhile, Nifty Fifty’s —a 1950s-style diner known for burgers, cheesesteaks, and milkshakes —was planning to open a second Bucks County location. 2 Chicken Chains Open In Abington Township

Chicken chains are becoming the real deal as Popeye's and Raising Cane's opened eateries in Abington Township. In October, Raising Cane's opened its second chicken fingers eatery in Montgomery County near the Willow Grove Park Mall. Meanwhile, Popeye's Louisiana Chicken opened in August at the former TD Bank property on Old York Road. (Read More)

Ross & Co. Threatens Closure Without Hatboro Help

It was supposed to be a crown jewel in Hatboro, a "Cheers" for a community where everyone knows everybody's name in a community trying to get its footing in a transformation from past to present. But six months after opening, the owner of Ross & Co. threatened in November to shutter its operations if he didn't get help from borough officials. (Read More)

Rooster's Glenside Opens In Abington Township

In mid-November, Rooster's Glenside officially opened its doors, replacing the longtime Keswick Tavern. The 3,000-square-foot space will feature 40 bar seats, 90 dining seats, and an additional 44 seats outside. (Read More)
