Zoning board OKs McDonald's demolition, rebuilding

That strange McDonald's parking lot on Old York Road may soon be level

The Abington Township Zoning Hearing Board OK’d an application Tuesday night allowing the McDonald’s restaurant in the 1600 block of Old York Road to be razed and rebuilt.

The application passed 3-0; Barbara Wertheimer and Edward Mebus were not present.

Submitted by McDonald’s USA LLC, the application covers the parcels at 1649 Old York Road through 1663 Old York Road.

In addition to the demolition and building of a new restaurant, the application requested that the existing topography be altered to allow for a level parking lot.

The current restaurant has a two-tiered parking lot, with the higher of the two being located at the corner of Old York Road and Chester Avenue.

The application also requested special exemptions for the changing of grading on the site, as well as additional signage.

According to the McDonald's website, the restaurant named in the application is number 842.
