100 Best Small Towns In America: See Which PA Towns Made The List

PENNSYLVANIA — Looking for small-town charm in the Keystone State? Two small towns in Pennsylvania have been named among the best in the country, according to a new report.

The travel media company Far and Wide recently ranked the 100 best towns with fewer than 10,000 residents, celebrating communities with rich history and thriving Main Street thoroughfares.

The list includes well-known towns across the country — including Harpers Ferry in West Virginia, Rehoboth Beach in Delaware, and Cooperstown in New York — and as well as lesser-known gems such as Monowi, Nebraska.

Monowi, with a population of one, ranked as the best small town in America.

Here are the towns from Pennsylvania that made the list, and some highlights from Far and Wide:

• Doylestown (No. 95), population of 8,300
• This Bucks County community is home to many horse farms, with “acres and acres of pastures just outside of its thriving town.” Far and Wide goes on to highlight how, “within the town, which serves as the county seat, Main and State Streets often fill with residents to enjoy the patio dining, old-time movie theater, shops and festivals.”

• Jim Thorpe (No. 69), population of 4,507
• “The town is colorful and quaint, with locals who treat visitors like family. Its location in the Lehigh Gorge State Park guarantees unbelievable views of mountains that change colors throughout the seasons, and Victorian houses are complemented by old trains that still operate for tourists, a thoroughly charming throwback touch.”

The Midwest and South regions were home to several of the best small towns in America, according to the report. Towns in Nebraska, Wisconsin, North Dakota, Missouri, Alabama, West Virginia, South Dakota, and Kentucky all cracked the top 10.
