Severe Weather, Potential Storms Move Into Philly Region: See Latest Forecast

Scattered to severe thunderstorms are possible Monday afternoon in the greater Philadelphia area, potentially bringing damaging wind gusts and heavy rains, according to forecasters. It's the opening salvo of three straight days of storms.

"Today begins a stretch of unsettled weather that will continue through at least Wednesday," the National Weather Service's Mt. Holly, New Jersey branch said in a statement.

The front could arrive as early as 1 p.m. Monday, and the threat will linger until 9 p.m.

Chances of severe thunderstorm remain in the agency's lowest risk category, currently considered "marginal risk."

Residents are advised to monitor for weather updates in case warnings are issued as the storms move in.

Additional rounds of storms are anticipated on Tuesday afternoon and Wednesday afternoon, forecasters said.

Tuesday is likely to be the most severe day of the week.

"Hail, damaging wind gusts and flooding downpours will impact travel in the area (Tuesday), especially along the Interstate 95 corridor," Accuweather said.

Up to an inch of rain could fall during the day, with thunderstorms possible up until 2 a.m. and another three quarters of an inch of rain falling in the night. The chance of precipitation is 90 percent.

Less precipitation is expected Wednesday, with a 60 to 70 percent chance during the day and a quarter inch of rain possible. Thunderstorms are possible in the evening until 11 p.m.
