3 Dead, 3 Injured After Early-Morning PA Fire: Reports

The cause of the fire is still underway, though investigators have determined the home did not have functioning smoke detectors.

NORTH LONDONDERRY TOWNSHIP, PA — Officials said three people are dead, including a 7-year-old girl, after a Lebanon County home fire that firefighters battled for hours early Sunday.

The fire broke out just after 1:30 a.m. Sunday in the first block of Patton Road in North Londonderry Township, according to reports from local news stations.

Six people were inside the home in total; four were able to evacuate but one ran back in to try and rescue family members, officials said.

Officials had said a young boy was among those outside the home, and firefighters extricated three people from inside, an ABC 27 report said.

All six people were transported to Hershey Medical Center, and three were pronounced dead from their injuries: 7-year-old Kristi Dougherty and 60-year-old Cynthia Weatherholtz of Swatara Township, and 87-year-old Paul Garman of North Londonderry Township.

The three survivors had injuries of varying severity, according to FOX 43.

The cause of the fire is still underway, though investigators have determined the one-story home did not have functioning smoke detectors. Fire crews and the Pennsylvania State Police fire marshal were on scene investigating until noon Sunday, reported FOX 43.

A GoFundMe has been started for the family, and raised more than $16,000 as of Monday afternoon.
