Up To 5 Inches Of Rain Possible In Eastern PA Monday, Flash Flood Watch Issued

Two inches of rain per hour could fall as a flood watch has been issued across the region.

A flood watch has been issued for the greater Philadelphia area on Monday, as up to two inches of rain could fall throughout the evening as part of the latest severe weather front, according to forecasters.

Storms will arrive this afternoon and continue into the evening, will the brunt of the impacts occurring between 2 p.m. Monday and 2 a.m. Tuesday.

"Excessive runoff may result in flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations," the National Weather Service said. "Creeks and streams may rise out of their banks. Flooding may occur in poor drainage and urban areas."

Monday's heavy rainfall is only the first wave of a week full of showers and thunderstorms, with inclement weather in the forecast for every day this week.

Tuesday, particularly, could bring back heavy rainfall at the rate of two inches per hour, and there's another chance of flash flooding, according to weather officials. However, the chance of flooding on Tuesday is not as severe or widespread as the chance during Monday's storm.

"There will be chances of showers and thunderstorms each day this week," the National Weather Service added. "Remain alert for changing weather conditions, and have a reliable, trustworthy source to receive warnings should they be issued."
