6 Killed In Crashes Over Labor Day Weekend: PA State Police

Pennsylvania State Police said from Aug. 30 to Sept. 2, 580 ​crashes occurred in the state, leading to 170 injuries and six deaths.

PENNSYLVANIA — Six people died in crashes across Pennsylvania over Labor Day Weekend, according to new information from Pennsylvania State Police.

State Police said from Aug. 30 to Sept. 2, 580 crashes occurred in the state, leading to 170 injuries and six deaths.

Data shows of the 580 crashes, impaired driving was a factor in 65 of them. Of the six people killed in crashes, three deaths involved impaired driving.

Troopers arrested 514 people for driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs.

  • Marvin R. Branton, 66, of Phillipsburg — Aug. 31 in White Township, Cambria County
  • Robert Humenay, 81, of Grassflat — Sept. 1 in Clearfield Township, Clearfield County; Nathaniel Beers, 22, of Smithmill, charged with homicide while DUI
  • Glen S. Leon-Veliz, 38, of Reading — Aug. 31 in East Hanover Township, Lebanon County
  • Hannah E. Shaffer, 19, of Susquehanna — Sept. 1 in Susquehanna Depot Borough, Susquehanna County

State police issued 24,865 citations, including 7,069 for speeding, 889 for failing to wear a seatbelt, 121 for not securing children in safety seats. Troopers also issued 16,786 citations for other violations.
