Amish Couple Killed After Pickup Truck Strikes Buggy On PA Road: PSP

An Amish husband and wife died after a pickup truck driver struck the horse-drawn carriage they were riding in on Sunday, officials said.

LANCASTER COUNTY, PA — An Amish couple died after a pickup truck driver struck the horse-drawn carriage they were riding in on Sunday and caused them to crash, said officials.

The crash happened around 7:14 a.m Sunday on Valley Road in Eden Township, Lancaster County, said officials. A pickup truck was westbound on the road and tried to pass the buggy on the left, striking the rear end of the buggy, according to a report from WHTM-TV.

The crash killed 71-year-old Jacob and 70-year-old Annie Stoltzfus, a couple from Eden Township, said the Lancaster County Coroner's Office. Both were pronounced dead at the scene, and the coroner's office will investigate the cause and manner of their deaths.

"A physical assessment at the scene by a coroner investigator revealed significant trauma," the coroner said.

Police said a 22-year-old man was operating the pickup truck. No charges have been filed as of Monday morning, per WHTM.
