Weather Shift Headed To Eastern PA: See Timing

The coming days of rain and cooler air could signal the beginning of a colder than usual May, forecasters said.

Sparkling sunshine and balmy temperatures will give way to days of showers around the greater Philadelphia area, with more rain and cold likely in the coming weeks, according to forecasters.

Temperatures will drop into the low 40s in the coming days, with possibly heavy rain making for challenging conditions.

"The turbulent nature of spring will be on display this week in the Northeast, with wild temperature swings, soggy weather and even snow on tap into the start of May," Accuweather said,

The changes will begin Wednesday. The steadiest and heaviest rain of the week is expected then, with the potential for flooding in high risk areas.

Temperatures will drop up to 15 degrees below seasonal averages.

Rain will continue into Wednesday night and the early part of the day Thursday.

It's sorely needed. More than half of the east coast, including swaths of eastern Pennsylvania, is experiencing abnormally dry or drought conditions, according to the U.S. Drought Monitor.

While a few days of sunshine are expected later in the week, the long term outlook shows more cool weather on the horizon for the Philadelphia area and broader region.

"Beyond the weekend, temperatures may rise again briefly in the Northeast, but Accuweather's team of long-range forecasters expect the first half of May to largely be on the cooler side compared to average," the outlet said.

The 8-14 day outlook from the Climate Prediction Center also shows below normal temperatures in the region at least through May 11.
