Summer doesn’t actually start until Sunday, June 21, when the summer solstice occurs.
But Memorial Day Weekend, unofficially the start of summer, pulls people out of their daily routines, and for the next few months, it’s game on for shared art, food, music, and heritage.
All eyes will be on Philadelphia this summer as the nation celebrates its 250th anniversary where it all started. The city also is hosting the World Cup and Major League Baseball's All-Star Game.
Here are some of the main events this summer:
Wawa Welcome America will feature 16 days of July 4th fireworks and festivities for America's 250th birthday. The nation's largest Fourth of July celebration kicks off on June 19. Click here for all the details

Musikfest in Bethlehem runs runs every summer and is planned for July 30 to Aug. 9 this year. Located in the historic Moravian district and SteelStacks, this is the largest free, non-gated music festival in the nation, offering hundreds of performances across dozens of stages alongside amazing food. Central Pennsylvania Festival of the Arts at State College runs from July 8-12. Held on the Penn State University campus, the event draws over 100,000 visitors to shop from hundreds of artists while enjoying live music and theater. Click here for details
In just a few weeks, Philadelphia will begin hosting a slew of FIFA World Cup matches. Six matches will take place at Lincoln Financial Field, which has temporarily rebranded as "Philadelphia Stadium" for the tournament. (Read More)
Dozens of former Phillies, including Baseball Hall of Famers and World Series champions, will attend a four-day fan festival when Philadelphia hosts the MLB All-Star Game. The festival is from July 11-14. (Read More)

The biggest festival in Pittsburgh every summer is the Dollar Bank Three Rivers Arts Festival, a massive 10-day celebration that attracts hundreds of thousands of visitors with free world-class concerts, massive juried artist markets, and various visual arts exhibitions.
