Thunderstorms could slam into the greater Philadelphia area Saturday, bringing potentially damaging wind gusts and interrupting weekend plans.
The National Weather Service said the storms could be "strong to severe."
The storms will come on a cold front that will snap a period of brutal heat and humidity, with temperature rising into the mid 90s on Friday and earlier in the day Saturday.
"Compared to the final weekend of May, temperatures this weekend will be 20-25 degrees higher across much of the region," Accuweather said. "The contrast will be even greater compared to Memorial Day weekend, when daytime highs in many areas challenged record-cold maximum temperatures. This weekend is projected to be 35-40 degrees warmer across portions of the Northeast."
But temperatures will drop to 70 Saturday night and could go lower in the heart of the storms.
The front will arrive in the early evening hours and could continue later into the night.
Severe winds are likely to be the most significant impact, the National Weather Service said.
Temperatures will pop back up to 90 on Sunday as the storms clear, according to the forecast, with a sunny start to next week on tap.
