Storm System Threatens Part Of Weekend In Eastern PA

A storm system is threatening part of the weekend in the Philadelphia region.

Forecasters with the National Weather Service say heavy rainfall "potentially leading to flash flooding" is possible Sunday.

The system could bring a few severe storms, the agency said. Rainfall of 2 to 3 inches per hour is possible.

The timing of the storm is estimated to be in the afternoon into the evening.

The good news is, aside from an isolated shower, Saturday will be dry and pleasant.

Saturday: Sunny, with a high near 89. Northeast wind around 5 mph.

Saturday night: Partly cloudy, with a low around 70. Southeast wind around 5 mph becoming calm in the evening.

Sunday: A chance of showers, then showers likely and possibly a thunderstorm after 2pm. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 84. South wind 5 to 10 mph, with gusts as high as 20 mph. Chance of precipitation is 70%. New rainfall amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.

Sunday night: Showers and possibly a thunderstorm before 2am, then a chance of showers. Low around 72. South wind around 10 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80%. New rainfall amounts between a half and three quarters of an inch possible.

Monday: A chance of showers, with thunderstorms also possible after 8am. Mostly sunny, with a high near 89. Chance of precipitation is 30%. New rainfall amounts of less than a tenth of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.
