Update On Weekend Forecast For Eastern PA

Rain may interfere with weekend plans around southeastern Pennsylvania, while cooling temperatures bring a taste of fall.

SOUTHEASTERN PA — Rain is likely to interfere with weekend plans for residents in the greater Philadelphia area, though forecasters do not believe this storm will bring with it the severe impacts that have accompanied much of the recent wild weather.

Cool temperatures will also bring more hints of autumn after a brutal summer that has seen record breaking temperatures and heat indexes.

Friday will be a calm and balmy day with the high not escaping the upper 70s. But storm clouds will move in later in the day and will increase into the night, according to the National Weather Service.

The early part of Saturday will be dry, but rain will move in by around 2 p.m., forecasters said. Precipitation will continue through 5 p.m., with about a 70 percent chance. A few more scattered showers are possible before 8 p.m.

This will not be an all out deluge or continuous downpour, however.

"Instead of a weekend washout, people across the Northeast will likely see spotty showers with a few pockets of steadier rain," Accuweather notes. "The bulk of the rain will fall during the first part of the weekend (for the mid-Atlantic)."

All told, about a tenth of an inch of rain is forecasted.

The mild temperatures will continue through the weekend, with signs of fall in the overnight low of 54 on Saturday and Sunday.
