Doug Mastriano Uses 'Star Wars' Photo In Social Media Post On Drones
He later said the post, which implied the US government is too busy in Ukraine to respond to the drone sightings, was satirical.
PENNSYLVANIA — Former gubernatorial candidate and state senator Doug Mastriano's social media posts are drawing headlines again, but this time it's not for what his political opponents would describe as right wing extremism.
The MAGA acolyte and devoted Trump supporter, who lost the 2022 election to Josh Shapiro, shared his thoughts on the ongoing drone sightings in recent post, along with a doctored photo of a Star Wars TIE fighter on the bed of a tractor trailer.
The post instantly drew a viral response, though Mastriano was quick to add that the post was a joke and that he knew the photo he shared wasn't a real a drone.

"It is inconceivable that the federal government has no answers nor has taken any action to get to the bottom of the unidentified drones," he wrote. "The fecklessness of this administration was on display last year when a Chinese surveillance balloon was allowed to fly over the entire continental United States before being shot down. Such should be viewed as a threat to our nation and citizens and action is long overdue. We have recourses and assets in our arsenal to get answers, but I suppose Ukraine is more important to the White House. January 20th can’t come soon enough."
The Star Wars image includes superimposed text that reads "Crashed drone in Orange Beach retrieved from water, and taken to undisclosed location for further investigation."

Mastriano later pilloried a reporter who called to ask him if he knew the difference between a TIE fighter and a real world, Milky Way galaxy, Earth-produced drone.
"We've really lost our minds with this drone hysteria," wrote filmmaker Steve Greenstreet.
"Sen. Mastriano, I first thought you were being cute w/this pic you posted & were trying to, pardon the pun, weaponize it as a swipe at our govt," another shared. "Then I read further. You’re serious. Only Mark Hamill can address you properly. Bless your heart."
"I guess defending the US from the Galactic Empire is way more important to Senator Mastriano than actual wars in this galaxy," said another.
Mastriano later tagged multiple news outlets and reporters in a post on X and said "you will all be hearing from my attorney."
