Departments throughout southeastern Pennsylvania will be cracking down on tailgating, red-light running and other behaviors through Aug. 21.

KING OF PRUSSIA, PA — More than 80 law enforcement agencies are teaming up with state police to target aggressive drivers and reduce the number of crashes, injuries and deaths on Pennsylvania roads.

The joint effort was announced this week by the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation. As part of the effort, municipal police departments from Bucks, Chester, Delaware, Montgomery, and Philadelphia counties will be cracking down on unsafe driving behaviors through Aug. 21, PennDOT said in a news release.

Last year, nearly 1,500 aggressive driving crashes resulted in 27 fatalities in Bucks, Chester, Delaware, Montgomery, and Philadelphia counties, according to PennDOT.

According to the state, authorities will focus on heavy truck violations, pedestrian safety, and other behaviors like red-light running and tailgating. Motorists that are driving too fast, following too closely, or exhibiting other aggressive driving behaviors will also be cited, officials said.

To catch aggressive drivers, authorities will use strategies including traffic enforcement zones, saturation patrols, speed enforcement details, corridor enforcement, work zone enforcement, and multi-jurisdictional patrol.
