Man Wanted For Sex Assault At PA College Detained In France: Reports

GETTYSBURG, PA — A California man who was wanted for the 2013 sexual assault of a student at Gettysburg College has reportedly been taken into custody in Europe.
Ian Thomas Cleary, 31, of Sarotoga, California, is wanted on one count of felony sexual assault that stemmed from a Dec. 15, 2013 incident in Gettysburg, according to authorities.
Action News reports authorities in Metz, France, confirmed Cleary was taken into custody last month and will be extradited to the United States.

His warrant was issued in 2021 by the Gettysburg Borough Police Department.
That warrant came after the woman he is accused of sexually assaulting found a Facebook message from Cleary that said, "So I raped you," according to NBC10.

Multiple outlets report the woman was 18 and Cleary was 20 at the time of the incident, and both were students at Gettysburg College. Cleary did not return to the college after the Dec. 15, 2013 incident.
