Nor'easter Targets Philly Area, Multiple Rounds Of Storms Possible

A nor'easter capable of bringing multiple rounds of storms up the coast and to the Philadelphia area could arrive in the region by the end of the week, forecasters warn.

While rain is likely over the next few days from a front is moving eastward across the country, the larger concern is a front that is currently brewing along the Atlantic coast.

Accuweather says the nascent storm has the potential to be severe, though there are still multiple possibilities in the forecast.

"The storm may wander out to sea for a time, then drift west and return closer to the coast later this week, in a maneuver similar to what Sandy did in October 2012 and decades earlier with Agnes in June 1972," Accuweather said. "This is not to say that this storm will reach a similar magnitude in terms of intensity and damage potential, but rather that impacts could be significant to severe should the storm strengthen and turn back toward the mid-Atlantic or New England coast."

If the storm continued moving out into the ocean rather than make the turn back to the coasts, the impacts would be much less severe.

Rain, potentially leading to flooding, and wind gusts with the strength to cause power outages, would be the two main impacts.

Timing also remains unclear, though this nor'easter would arrive later in the week on Friday, and would potentially continue through the weekend.
