PA Woman Killed At Glacier National Park

The 26-year-old was swept over a waterfall, officials said.

PENNSYLVANIA — A 26-year-old Pennsylvania woman died over the weekend after she was swept over the edge of a waterfall at Glacier National Park in Montana.

The incident occurred just after 5 p.m. on Sunday, June 23 at St. Mary Falls.

The woman, whose identity is being withheld by authorities for the time being, was hiking when she fell into the water and was washed over the edge, according to the National Park Service.

Officials said she was trapped under the water for several minutes before bystanders were able to pull her out.

Park rangers arrived at 5:45 p.m.to assist with resuscitation efforts, and a medical helicopter landed by 6:20 p.m. But the woman never regained consciousness and she was pronounced dead at 7 p.m.

The woman's body was flown to nearby Missoula for an autopsy. Park officials said the incident is under investigation and details are still being gathered.

It marks the second drowning tragedy involving a Pennsylvanian in the past several days, as a couple from Chester County drowned last week while on vacation with their six children in Florida.
