Severe Wind, Thunderstorms Possible In Philly Area Monday: Forecast

Wind gusts up to 60 miles per hour and hail are possible, the National Weather Service said.

EASTERN PENNSYLVANIA — Scattered severe thunderstorms and severe wind gusts has a chance of impacting the greater Philadelphia area later on Monday, according to forecasters.

A potentially severe storm will move into the area after 3 p.m. Monday, with the strongest impacts likely before 7 p.m.

Isolated thunderstorms and damaging wind gusts are the chief threats, with wind gusts up to 60 miles per hour possible, the National Weather Service said.

There is also a chance for small hail.

The greatest risk to southeastern Pennsylvania is along the I-95 corridor and immediately along the border with New Jersey. A narrow band covering the eastern parts of Philadelphia, Chester, Delaware, and Bucks counties is within the greater risk area, while the bulk of the five county area is at a lower risk.

Temperatures will not escape the mid-80s Monday, but will rise to the upper 90s by Wednesday, when another round of thunderstorms is possible.

"Later in the week, a cold front will gradually sweep across the country and will knock down temperatures heading into the Labor Day weekend," Accuweather notes.

Tuesday
Partly sunny, then gradually becoming sunny, with a high near 90. Northeast wind around 5 mph becoming calm.

Tuesday Night
Mostly clear, with a low around 72. South wind around 5 mph.

Wednesday
A slight chance of showers between 2pm and 5pm, then a slight chance of showers and thunderstorms after 5 p.m. Sunny, with a high near 96. Southwest wind 5 to 10 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20 percent.

Wednesday Night
A chance of showers and thunderstorms, mainly between 8pm and 2am. Partly cloudy, with a low around 73. Chance of precipitation is 30 percent. New rainfall amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.

Thursday
Partly sunny, with a high near 81.
