As Truck Explodes, 'Superheroes' Pull PA Turnpike Driver To Safety
Just as the driver was pulled free, a video shows an explosion rocking the truck and flames engulfing the cabin.
HEMPFIELD, PA — A group of bystanders helped to rescue a truck driver who was pulled from his burning rig on the Pennsylvania Turnpike moments before it was rocked by an explosion.
The incident occurred on Sunday at around 1:30 p.m. in Hempfield, between the Irwin and New Stanton interchanges, just over 30 miles east of Pittsburgh, state police said.
The truck, which was hauling mail, was headed west when it crashed, TribLive reports. It's not clear what led to the accident.

With the truck on fire, bystanders who saw the incident rushed up to the cab and helped the driver escape, as captured in a video shared to social media.
"We are hoping everyone involved is ok," the person who took the video wrote. "There were some superheroes here who pulled the driver out."

Shortly after the driver was pulled free, flames fully engulfed the truck.
The driver was injured and later hospitalized, authorities said, but TribLive reports the injuries were not life-threatening.
