Ambler Man, 20, Sentenced To Life In Prison For Killing Mother, Her Boyfriend

AMBLER, PA -- An 20-year-old Ambler man was found guilty and sentenced to life in prison for the first-degree murder of his mother and her boyfriend about a year ago, the Montgomery County District Attorney's Office announced Wednesday night.

Joshua Trunk, who was 19 at the time, shot and killed Janice Trunk, 54, and Kevin Milton Smith, 44, at the Forest Garden Apartments in Ambler last July 31.

"He (Trunk) never deserves to see the light of day again and that’s reflective of his conduct," said First Assistance DA Ed McCann, who helped prosecute the case. "He brutally executed two people. It’s a horrible, horrible crime and he clearly deserves the sentence that he got."

In addition to McCann, the case was also prosecuted by Assistant District Attorney Kelly Lloyd.

"When the officers entered the apartment, there were no signs of forced entry, no evidence of the ransacking common to burglaries and no indication of a struggle," said DA Kevin Steele. "Following a thorough investigation by the Ambler Police and the Montgomery County Detectives, the evidence pointed to the defendant and a family violence situation."

Trunk officially received two life sentences for the crimes, according to court documents.
