Ambler Teen Used 'Half-Moon' Blade In Alleged Knife Assault

LANSDALE, PA -- An Ambler teen has been arrested in an alleged knife assault in Lansdale on New Years Eve.

Deshawn Newman, 17, of Southern Avenue, was the 500 block of Cypress Street just before 11 p.m. that night, according to The Reporter.

Newman was found at the 700 block of Spruce Street just moments later when he claimed to be seeking help, the report states. He that he had been “jumped” by the victim, the report states.

He later admitted he had struck the victim in the face with a large “half-moon-shaped” blade with a wooden handle, according to the report.

The victim suffered a broken jaw, facial nerve damage, severed tendons in his hand, and irreparable injuries. He cannot close one eye and is not expected to ever fully recover, the report states.

Newman’s hearing is January 28.
