Help Provide Reading Opportunities To Children With Disabilities

Help Children With Sight And Hearing Difficulties Be Able To Read

Some children have difficulty reading books because of eyesight problems or physical difficulties with their arms or hands.  Some children also have difficulties with hearing words as they read books.

There are programs available to help some of the children with those disabilities.

But when children have those disabilities and are also in families with low incomes, it's difficult for their families to access the available programs.

A local non-profit organization, America Responds With Love®, is bridging that gap.

The Respond With Love® Learning At Home™ Program includes efforts to provide books, computers, and digital content to children with sight and hearing difficulties in the Greater Philadelphia Area.

"I believe that each one of us can help America Responds With Love® in its important mission to provide resources to people truly in need," explains Mr. David Kay, a Respond With Love Leader in the Greater Philadelphia Area. "For me, I’d like to give children who have sight and hearing difficulties the ability to read books."

"With your support, America Responds With Love® will be able to provide computers with internet access to children that have difficulties seeing and hearing in the Greater Philadelphia Area. You’ll also be helping the non-profit organization as it adds content to the Respond With Love Digital Library."

America Responds With Love® is working with both the Bookshare Program of The Benetech Initiative and the National Library Service for the Blind and Physically Handicapped of the Library of Congress to encourage individuals with sight and hearing difficulties to avail themselves of these programs. These resources are available through programs of the United States Department of Education Office of Special Education Programs and the United States Congress.

Both of these services are available directly from Bookshare Program of The Benetech Initiative and the National Library Service for the Blind and Physically Handicapped. An individual does not need to utilize the services of America Responds With Love® to utilize the services of these independent organizations.
