Why Should You Attend the Candidate Forum for Wissahickon School Board?

The School Board Candidate Forum will be held on Wednesday, May 8 at the Whitpain Township building starting at 7:30pm. Candidates for the Wissahickon School Board will introduce themselves and take questions from the audience. The Primary Election is on Tuesday, May 21. So why should you attend the Candidate Forum?

• The School Board has significant influence over the education of our children.
• After Federal Taxes, your largest tax bill is likely for the Wissahickon School District.
• The School Board has autonomous control over how $90 Million is spent. Basically school board members are only held accountable on election day by voters.
• The School Board is considering building a new high school. The facilities study estimates the total cost of a new high school to be at least $90 million.
• The School Board will begin negotiating a new teacher’s contract. Salaries and benefits for staff consume about 3/4 of the school budget.
