Dr. Edgar L. (Ned) Eckfeldt, of Ambler

Dr. Edgar Eckfeldt became a research scientist in the industrial controls industry at Leeds and Northrup and had numerous patents and scientific journal publications.

Dr. Edgar L. (Ned) Eckfeldt passed away on May 17, 2012. He was born in Norristown, Pennsylvania on February 28, 1915. He attended public schools there and later Ambler, Pennsylvania, where he lived for most of his life. He graduated from the University of Pennsylvania with an undergraduate degree in chemical engineering and a Ph.D. in physical chemistry. He became a research scientist in the industrial controls industry at Leeds and Northrup and had numerous patents and scientific journal publications. After retiring, he spent most of his time cultivating his long interests in art, both painting and sculpture, and religion. At the age of 96, he published his book, The Christian Legacy, Taming Brutish Human Nature in Western Civilization, which is based on his belief that Christianity has had a major positive impact on Western Civilization.

He is survived by his wife of 72 years, Patricia Dager Eckfeldt; his two daughters, Ann and Katherine; his two sons, John and Fred; and his sister, Julia Ann Gehman. He had five grandchildren and six great grandchildren. A memorial service was held on May 23rd at Springhouse Estates. Burial was private.
