Art Exhibit Opening: Charles Schmidt’s 'Myth and Metaphor: Figure Paintings

Montgomery County Community College will host “Myth and Metaphor: Figure Paintings,” an exhibition featuring artist Charles Schmidt, from Wednesday, Oct. 17 through Friday, Nov. 16 at the College’s Fine Arts Center Gallery, Central Campus, 340 DeKalb Pike, Blue Bell.

An opening reception will be held Wednesday, Oct. 17, from 5-7 p.m. with a gallery talk at 6 p.m. The exhibit and reception are open to the public and free of charge. 

Charles Schmidt is a Professor Emeritus of painting and drawing of the Tyler School of Art. He lived in Rome for approximately three years, teaching at Tyler's Rome campus. He also traveled to Greece, Turkey and Egypt. His visits to these sites and ruins of classical antiquity deeply influenced his art and gave rise to the idea of depicting various myths and biblical stories in a contemporary context. The MCCC exhibit features this series of large figurative oil paintings and drawings.
