Former Temple University President Peter Liacouras Dies: Report

The former president of Temple University, Peter Liacouras, has died at 85, the school's newspaper, Temple News, said.

He passed away peacefully on Thursday night, his son Greg told Temple News.

Liacouras had served as president from 1982 to 2000 and was dean of Temple's easley School of Law from 1972 to 1982.

The university's profile page for Liacouras gives a glowing account of the state of the university under his tenure:

-a burgeoning “Temple Town” and transformation of the Main Campus into a full residential campus;

– the largest development program in the university’s history;

– five other campuses and sites in Pennsylvania;

– campuses or sites in London, Paris, Rome, Athens, Tel Aviv, Ghana, Tokyo,Seoul and Beijing;

– evolving on-line educational ventures;

– a fiercely independent administration beholden to no political or government operatives in day-to-day operations.
