Harvey Edward Little, Esq., 70, of Blue Bell

Harvey Little served in the US Navy for over 22 years.

Harvey Edward Little, Esq., CDR, JAGC, USN (Ret.), 73, of Blue Bell, PA, died on May 17, 2012, at Einstein Medical Center Philadelphia. He was the son of the late Eddie and Ruth Little and the brother of Bill Little of Austin, Texas. He was the beloved husband of 43 years to Joan P. Little. He was a devoted father to his three girls, Jennifer M. Severance (Todd) of Leesburg, Virginia; Catherine A. Little of Storrs, Connecticut; and Jeannine M. Carrado (Sebastian) of Yorktown, Virginia. He was a proud grandfather of five: Andrew, Abby, and Colin Severance, and Ryan and Sam Carrado.

Harvey was born April 20, 1939, in Corpus Christi, Texas. He grew up in Winters, Texas, and graduated from Winters High School in 1957. He attended Texas Christian University for two years before transferring to and graduating from the University of Texas at Austin in 1961 with a degree in journalism. He earned his Juris Doctor from the University of Texas Law School in 1964, then attended Officer Candidate School and began his service in the United States Navy in 1965. Two years later he met Joan Howe, a Navy nurse, at an Officers’ Club in Portsmouth, Virginia, and they married on October 12, 1968.

Harvey proudly served in the Judge Advocate General Corps of the US Navy for over 22 years, including service aboard USS AMERICA (CV-66) and in various duty stations in Rhode Island, Pennsylvania, Virginia, and Louisiana. Although he always missed the great state of Texas (and made sure to talk about it daily), he also loved Philadelphia, and especially its baseball team. He and Joan chose to return with the family to the Philadelphia area upon Harvey’s retirement from the US Navy in 1987. He continued practicing law in a civilian capacity with several firms in the area and through conducting arbitrations for Montgomery County until 2011.

Harvey was a constant storyteller and enjoyed being the life of the party. He loved playing and watching sports of all kinds, especially Phillies baseball, and quizzing everyone he met about baseball trivia. He was an avid reader who was helping maintain print journalism by reading two newspapers cover to cover daily. He found his greatest joy in spending time with family and friends, especially when he had the chance to speak proudly about his children and grandchildren (and about Texas).

Harvey was a member of the Lions Club of Hatboro, the Montgomery County Bar Association, and the American Bar Association, as well as of the Texas Exes, the Ex-Students Association of the University of Texas. He was an active member of First Presbyterian Church of Ambler, where he was proud to serve on several projects and committees over the years and to speak annually on behalf of Veterans at Memorial Day services.
