MCCC, Eastern University Enter Dual Admissions Agreement

The agreement will benefit MCCC students who wish to transfer to Eastern University.

“A recent comprehensive transfer study revealed that our students who graduate with an associate’s degree are more likely to earn a bachelor’s degree when they transfer, “said Dr. Karen A. Stout, Montgomery County Community College president, in a press release released by the College.

Because of the rate of transferring students, MCCC has entered into a dual admissions transfer agreement with Eastern University.

Under the agreement, MCCC students with a grade point average (GPA) of 2.0 or higher who graduate with Associate of Arts degrees, Associate of Science degrees, or Associate of Applied Science degrees in Criminal Justice or Human Services are eligible for the partnership program.

“This transfer agreement with Eastern University creates a clear pathway for students to follow from the moment they enroll at the college,” said Stoudt.

With the signing of the agreement, MCCC now has 22 core-to-core transfer agreements with four-year institutions.

The transfer study showed an 80 percent graduation rate in MCCC students who transferred to Eastern since 2005, among the highest success rates for all transfer destinations.

“Clearly, students who come from Montgomery County Community College are successful when they transfer to Eastern,” said Dr. David R. Black, Eastern University president, in the release. “We hope to continue building our partnership to make students’ transitions as seamless as possible.”

The agreement will also help MCCC students both during the transfer process and once they are students at Eastern University. Eastern has agreed to waive the admissions application fee and will award full-time students with scholarships ranging from $4,000 to $9,500, depending on GPA.

Academic advising will also be available to MCCC students through Eastern while they earn their associate’s degrees.
