What is Health and how can we move toward achieving it?
The definition of health, according to the World Health Organization is, "a state of complete physical, mental and social well-being and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity."
Considering this definition while seeking answers to current health care systems, my attention was drawn to comments made by Ralph Snyderman, MD, Chancellor Emeritus for Health Affairs at Duke University as noted in the Bravewell Collaborative Report 2010. He stated that, "When health is understood as a state of physical, emotional, mental, social and spiritual wellness that enables an engaged relationship with life, and when health in its fullest sense is the goal of the health care system, then it naturally follows that all the influencing factors, not just the physical problems, need to be addressed in the care process."

Next week, recognized as National Men's Health Week, attention is being drawn to how men care for their health. In the brief video below, Richard shares his inspiring experience of finding his way to health, after a second diagnosis of Hodgkin's disease, a form of cancer.
