Montco Elementary Student Places 2nd At Soap Box World Champs

An elementary school student in Montgomery County recently placed second at the Soap Box Derby World Championships.

LANSDALE, PA — A North Penn School District student recently placed second at the Soap Box Derby World Championships.

Matthew Tomczak, a student at Gwynedd Square Elementary, competed in the recent event in Akron, Ohio.

Matt was able to qualify for the race by winning the famous Conshohocken Soap Box derby race on July 4.

According to North Penn, Matt's margin of victory in that race was one of the largest in event history.

More than 400 of the best Soap Box racers from around the world competed in the Akron event.

As a reward for his achievement, Matt received a $2,500 college scholarship. And, not to mention, a pretty enormous trophy.
