Montco Highway Worker Killed By Vehicle Identified: Cops

FRANCONIA TOWNSHIP, PA — The Franconia Township Public Works employee who was struck and killed by a car on Tuesday afternoon has been identified.

David Smith, 53, of Telford, passed away after he was hit while painting lines on the road near West Broad Street Elementary School, police said.

Jeffrey Moyer, 46, of Telford, was also struck and seriously injured on Tuesday, authorities said. He was taken to Temple University Hospital where he remains in critical condition Wednesday.

"Our thoughts go out to his family, friends and colleagues at the township," Franconia Board Of Supervisors Chairman Grey Godshall said in a statement released on Wednesday afternoon. "We are praying for (Moyer's) recovery. Franconia is a tight-knit community and staff at the township is like family. When a member of our community is lost or injured, we all grieve. We are doing all that we can to assist the families of our co-workers."

Police in Franconia are working with the Montgomery County District Attorney's Office on the investigation.

The driver of the vehicle that struck Smith and Moyer stopped at the scene, authorities said.

It's not yet clear what could have led to the crash.
