Montco Man Stole Identity Of Deceased Child For 20 Years: Officials

LANSDALE, PA — A Lansdale man who escaped from a Texas halfway house in 1996 has been using the stolen identity of a deceased child ever since, according to the US Attorney's Eastern District of Pennsylvania office.

Jon Vincent, also known as "Nathan Laskoski," will spend the next 27 months in prison for his crimes, according to Acting United States Attorney Louis D. Lappen's office. Vincent pleaded guilty to identity theft back in May.

Vincent had been convicted of a different crime in the 1990s and served a prison term in Texas before being sentenced to the halfway house, authorities said.

After escaping the house, Vincent visited a nearby cemetery and found a gravestone that had a similar birth date to his own, according to the US Attorney's Office.

Vincent next was able to obtain a birth certificate under the name Laskoski, which he in turn used to apply for a Social Security number.

Since stealing the Laskoski identity, Vincent has used that Social Security number to get a job, open multiple bank account, apply for loans, and get a government-issued identification card, according to authorities.

Vincent was only found out when a Laskoski family member using Ancestry.com found evidence that indicated Vincent's scheme.

The Social Security Administration, Office of Inspector General, the United States Postal Inspection Service, the United States Department of Labor Office of Inspector General, and the Lansdale Police Department all worked on this investigation.
