More Signs Coming to Skippack Pike in Blue Bell

The zoning hearing board approves additional signage for a business complex.

William Peter Cross, owner of the business complex Village Crossing in Blue Bell, 721 Skippack Pike, has also bought the adjacent parcel, 663 Skippack Pike, and has plans to consolidate the two parcels into one.

A representative for Cross was present at the recent Whitpain Township Zoning Hearing Board meeting requesting relief for additional signage along Skippack Pike for the additional building.

The signage plan calls for another 22-foot free-standing sign, which would compliment the free-standing sign at 721 Skippack Pike, at what is now the driveway to 663 Skippack Pike. The driveway for 663 Skippack Pike is being removed to ease traffic flow along Skippack Pike.

The zoning hearing board questioned why a sign was being erected for a building that would be placed nearly 100 feet past the entrance to the business complex. The sign would be seen when traveling westbound, but when traveling eastbound on Skippack Pike, the sign would come after already passing the entrance for the complex.

Cross’ litigation answered that two signs were preferred for aesthetic purposes, and it will be easier to read two separate signs with fewer tenants listed than one larger sign with every tenant listed.

The decision to eliminate the driveway from 663 Skippack Pike, he explained, was necessary to reduce traffic congestion at high traffic times and keep the flow of traffic moving along Skippack Pike.

The other relief request was for 16 feet in awning signs at the entrances to the building that would compliment the exisiting awning signs at Village Crossing. There would be approximately three awning signs in total on 663 Skippack Pike.

The zoning hearing board unanimously granted the relief to Cross.
