UPPER GWYNEDD, PA — Frustration with the coronavirus pandemic and the ongoing impacts of the delta variant has boiled over into vandalism in parts of suburban Philadelphia.

Graffiti was spray-painted across the Upper Gwynedd and Towamencin areas with the repeated phrase "No Vax" as well as other drawings overnight Tuesday into Wednesday.

In front of Gwynedd Square Elementary, on the kiosk on the lawn, "I MISS MY FRIENDS" was spray painted over the school name on the sign.

The spray paint was also found on other parts of Sumneytown Pike, Supplee Road, Valley Forge Road, and the North Penn Marketplace. It was left on trees, signs, telephone poles and elsewhere.

Schools have been a focal point of controversy and frustration for many residents in the area as the latest surge of coronavirus continues. The North Penn School District recently mandated that all elementary school students and staff must wear masks to start the 2021-22 school year, sparking contentious debate at recent public board meetings. Similar debates have taken over school districts throughout the region as final health and safety policies are left to decision makers at the local level.
