October's First Friday is Ambler's Chance to 'Give Big'

Fashion Show for a Cause will be held during First Friday as a fundraiser for Big Brothers Big Sisters.

October's First Friday will be a very different, but exciting event in downtown Ambler. Big Brothers Big Sisters will be holding Fashion for a Cause along Cavalier Dr., showing the fall fashions from Free Shop, dance performances from Addicted 2 Dance, as well as 12 mentors and mentees (six bigs and six littles) telling their stories of their time together in Big Brothers and Big Sisters.

After the fashion show, guests will be welcomed to Addicted 2 Dance for a reception and after party.

Big Brothers Big Sisters has made 1,114 mentoring matches in Southeastern Pennsylvania, 450 of which are in Montgomery County. There are north 1,200 children on the waiting list, waiting for bigs.

Events, such as Fashion for a Cause, is an opportunity for Big Brothers Big Sisters to engage the community, raise funds that helps in the matching process, and recruit volunteers.

Before Bigs and Littles are matched, Big Brothers Big Sisters runs a background check on the Big, and once a match is made, there are monthly calls to the parents, the child and the volunteer.

The goal of the event is to raise $25,000, and currently, according to the AmblerGives.com website, $15,650 has been raised to date.
