Rain and 80 Degree Weather in the Forecast This Week
When it rains this week, it will be heavy.

May is one of those months that can bring us summery heat, cool mornings, and sometimes frontal boundaries that like to hang out over the region as they lose their punch and run into the developing summertime Bermuda high in the Atlantic. We've had a few "slow moving fronts" through the region during the past three weeks. This week promises yet another front and another slow track through the region between Monday and Wednesday.
It won't rain all day on Monday or Tuesday, but when it does, the rain could be heavy. Some spots could pick up a couple of inches of rain in the next couple of days. The best chances for heavier rain will be from Monday night into Tuesday morning. The main rain axis then shifts into New Jersey for the remainder of Tuesday. Showers could linger through the rest of Tuesday as the boundary slowly inches east.
Wednesday through Friday will bring improvement in the weather. If we get enough sunshine, Wednesday could be the warmest day of the rest of this week as temperatures could approach 80 degrees. A secondary frontal boundary passes to our north, helping kick the slow front out and bringing us a stretch of nice weather through at least Friday. Temperatures both days will get into the upper half of the 70's for highs, which is not bad for the middle of May.

How long this nice stretch of weather lasts remains to be seen. There's the potential for a coastal low to fire up between the Carolinas, Bahamas, and Florida late this week. This low might be tropical, subtropical, or just a nuisance, and it should not become overly strong regardless of origin. However, it may track far enough north to add some dampness and clouds to weekend plans at the Shore or at the Delaware beaches. It could also bring some rains to us on Sunday. Modeling is inconsistent in track and detail at this point, so I can only suggest that the weekend has a chance of being less-than-ideal on the coast.
