Stony Creek Students Send a 'Sweet' Thank You to Our Troops

Stony Creek Community Kids Club collected 350 lbs. of Halloween candy this week for Operation Gratitude, which will send the candy in care packages to troops overseas.

The Community Kids Club held a candy drive, beginning on Tuesday and ending on Friday. The club asked families to send in donations of Halloween candy that will be sent as part of care packages to service members overseas through Operation Gratitude.

Kindergarten through 5th grade students collected over 350 pounds of Halloween candy, everything from chocolate bars to pretzels. Parents also donated bags of unused trick-or-treat candy to the drive.

Last year the drive collected over 300 pounds of Halloween candy.

Doris Fox, Community Kids Club Chair, said collection bins were in all classrooms as well as a collection bin in the lobby of the school for parents or larger donations.

Students and parent volunteers helped separate the candy, pulling out opened candy and separating chocolate from regular candy.
