This Week in Wissahickon Sports
A wrap up of the week's sport action at Wissahickon High School.

It was another busy week for the Wissahickon sports teams. Here are results of how the teams did, and what's coming up.
BASEBALL
Greg Nuducsin's complete game lifted Wissahickon to an 8-2 road win at Upper Moreland, earning the Trojans a share of first-place with the Golden Bears.

Nuducsin surrendered two runs on eight hits, and didn't issue a walk. He struck out two.
The Trojans put the game out of reach with a seven-run sixth inning, highlighted by bases-loaded double from senior second baseman Michael Kropnick.

"Mike is our lead-off hitter and already has eight RBI this season," Wissahickon head coach Shannon Gunby said. "He's been great."
Wissahickon will try and ride that wave against Upper Dublin on Wednesday, weather permitting. They close out the week by hosting Plymouth Whitemarsh on Friday.
BOYS LACROSSE:
The Trojan boys lacrosse fell behind 5-1 in the first half and never recovered.
Freshman Brooks Melvin led the Trojans with two goals and one assist while Luke Gomez, Tyler Brothers and Matt Blank each scored a goal. Wissahickon's Peter Carrozza made six saves.
Melvin's and Gomez's scores came during a second-half comeback attempt that fell short.
Luc Minnich and Lorran Dacosta scored three goals apiece for Upper Merion, while Trevor Kupecky and Robby Boyk each added two. Wesley McDowell added two assists.
"The losses are obviously not where we want to be right now, but with our youth and lack of depth, we're playing hard and not giving up throughout the game," Wissahickon coach Anthony Gabriele told SuburbanOneSports.com. "Each day we're taking steps forward. Our kids are playing with heart right now, which tells us we will continue to improve."
Wissahickon's (1-4) next challenge will come against Upper Dublin, in a home game scheduled for April 15.
GIRLS LACROSSE:
Playing through a cold and unyielding rain, a depleted Wissahickon girls lacrosse team fell hard to Upper Dublin, 12-0.
The Trojans allowed six goals per half to the Cardinals, who avoided the puddles and kept penetrating the defense. Wissahickon did little against an Upper Dublin defense that marked key players and restricted passing lanes.
Wissahickon moved to 2-2 and hasn't had a close game yet. They beat Plymouth Whitemarsh 12-1 and Upper Moreland 16-1, but lost 14-6 to Central Bucks South and now 12-0 to Upper Dublin, who moved to 5-1 overall and 4-0 in the Suburban One American Conference.
The Trojans were without six starters, including top player Laura Frankenfield. Goalie Jess Scannapietro recorded nine saves, but a relentless Cardinals attack kept penetrating her defense, leaving her in uneven situations.
Already in a hole, a three-goal stretch in the opening minutes of the second half -- two Taylor D'Ginto scores and one by Brooke Callahan made the score 9-0 with 20:24 left.
The Trojans are scheduled to play Cheltenham on Thursday, at Wissahickon.
SOFTBALL:
Wissahickon junior ace Katie Ziegler, who begin her season with a no-hitter, allowed three runs in the second inning to St. Hubert's, and the Trojans lost, 4-2 on April 11.
Alex Comonitski and Gretchen Guaglianone had two hits apiece for Wissahickon (4-2), who scored a run in the sixth and seventh innings.
The Trojans play back-to-back games to close out the week, traveling to Upper Moreland on Thursday, then hosting Upper Merion on Friday.
TENNIS:
It's almost becoming boring. The tennis rolled to another easy win on April 11, dispatching Upper Merion, 7-0, and will likely do the same to Upper Dublin and Plymouth Whitemarsh on Wednesday and Thursday. Of their seven wins, six have been shutouts.
The Trojans still appear to be one of the area's dominant teams, and could be a major player at states.
TRACK:
The boys' track and field teams competed at the 41st annual Coatesville Invitational on April 9, and several runners qualifying for the upcoming PIAA District 1 AAA competition.
Sam Brooks earned a spot with a time of 1:59.63 in the 800-meter run. He finished second to Pennridge's Austin Kohler in the event, but beat the qualifying time of 2:00.00.
Maxmillan Hairston also made districts in the 300-meter hurdles, finishing third overall at 39.71. Coming in at 10th was Jinyoung Park at 41.27, just missing the qualifying time of 40.05.
Anthony Delegall finished second in the 100-meter dash with a time of 11.18, but was .18 away from getting into districts. He was just 0.05 off the leader, Coatesville's Kevin Smith. Delagall also finished fourth in the 200-meter dash.
The boys' 4x100 medley team also qualified with a time of 43.57, while they just missed in 4x400.
Se-Jin Jeong earned a spot with a pole vault of 13 feet, the exact height needed, while Se-He Jeong fell short at 12 feet, 6 inches.
Players have more opportunities to qualify, which are held in May.
