Whitpain Gets Huge $1.4 Million Grant For Wissahickon Park
Whitpain Township has received a major grant to improve Wissahickon Park.
WHITPAIN, PA — Whitpain Township has received a major grant to improve Wissahickon Park.
The $1.43 million grant comes from the state Department of Conservation and Natural Resources, State Rep. Liz Hanbridge (D-61) announced.
The money will go to improving amenities and enhancing accessibility, according to Hanbridge's office. Improvements include a pavilion, parking areas, walkways, plaza paving, volleyball, bocce, and horseshoe courts, playground equipment with safety surfacing, ADA access, landscaping, and more.

“This community deserves the return of a vibrant and welcoming Wissahickon Park, a place to go for both relaxation and recreation,” State Rep. Mary Jo Daley (D-148) said in a statement. “I’m proud of and happy for the organizers and leaders in Whitpain Township for continuing on this path of redevelopment, and I congratulate them for this latest grant. It will be money well spent.”
It's one of three major projects funded within the 61st District, including $25,000 for Veterans Memorial Park in Towamencin, and $15,000 for a trail study for the PECO Power Line Trails in Upper Gwynedd.

“These proposals would greatly enhance outdoor recreation opportunities for residents and visitors of all ages and abilities to enjoy even more of our community’s natural spaces,” Hanbidge said in a statement. “I am delighted that the state has recognized this need and provided our community with the financial support to make these plans a reality.”
All told, $1.46 million in local projects received funding.
