Wissahickon senior Matthew Schulman was awarded the William F. Dannehower Memorial Scholarship for his athletic abilities, academics, and a 900-mile, two-month hike on the Appalachian Trail to raise money for Make-A-Wish Foundation.

Matthew Schulman was awarded the William F. Dannehower Memorial Scholarship by the Triangle Club of Montgomery County because of his athletic abilities, academics, and a 900-mile, two-month hike on the Appalachian Trail to raise money for Make-A-Wish Foundation.
The hike, which Schulman told the Times Herald fulfilled his childhood dream as well as helped a potentially terminally ill girl fulfill her dream as well.
At Wissahickon, Schulman played tennis, baseball, soccer and cross country, as well as played baseball on the Wissahickon Junior Legion team

He’s active in the high school’s newspaper’ is a STARS tutor, co-president of the National Honor Society and plays saxophone in the jazz band.
Schulman was awarded a $3,000 scholarship. He plans on attending University of Pennsylvania in the fall to study business and engineering.

Amanda Assenmacher from Norristown Area High School was named runner-up and Zachary Endter, a student at Springfield Township High School was second runner up.
