Working at the Wissahickon Car Wash, Yeah

Wissahickon HS German students raise cash washing cars for June trip to Germany.

Despite overcast skies and sprinkles, the cycle went:  rinse, wash, rinse, dry.  Repeat.   For six hours Wissahickon High School German students cleaned pollen-laden cars to raise cash for their exchange trip to Germany in five weeks.

Cars steadily streamed into Shady Grove Elementary School's driveway Saturday, May 14, despite looming clouds.   Tenth grader Alex Cominitski says, "I was surprised.  We've had a good turnout.  I thought it [the car wash] was going to get rained out."

German teacher, Nicole Perrine-Wilson says, "Pollen on everybody's car is a good motivation," to get the car washed.  More than $1100 was raised, which will help defray trip costs to Osnabruck, Germany.

Twenty students are participating in the German American Partnership Program, (GAPP) and they will travel to Osnabruck, Germany to live with host families and attend school, says Nicole Perrine-Wilson.   She is organizing her eighth GAPP trip in 16 years of teaching German.
