2 Merion Boys Honored For Quick-Thinking Fire Response

The boys, 10 and 12, acted quickly and intelligently when they discovered a fire in their Merion home in December, fire officials said.

MERION, PA — Two young boys were recently recognized by Lower Merion Fire officials for their quick thinking during a fire at their home in December.

According to the Lower Merion School District, Ryder and Cooper Fiske-Kneafsey earned recognition from Lower Merion Chief Fire Officer Charles J. McGarvey Sr. at Merion Elementary School Wednesday.

Ryder, 10, and Cooper, 12, alerted their parents Amy Fiske and Dolan Kneafsey, as well as Sandy, the family dog, to a fire at their home on Idris Road in Merion.

The fire occurred in the early morning hours of Saturday, Dec. 28.

Fire officials said Ryder and Cooper acted quickly and efficiently to get their family out of the home safely while also preventing the fire from spreading after they closed doors in the home, according to fire officials.

McGarvey presented Ryder and Cooper with certificates of commendation at the school Wednesday.
