2010 Aces Varsity Golf Swings into Action
The 2010 Lower Merion co-ed golf team looks to carry last years post season success into the season.
Golf is a highly skilled game of patience, mental toughness and accuracy; but if you ask anyone who's played the game extensively they'll tell you sometimes you're just riding a hot streak. That's exactly what the Lower Merion Aces co-ed varsity golf team looks to do in their 2010 season as they compete for the Central League crown.
Although the 2009 Aces experienced a slew of ups and downs, they still managed to finish with a reputable 8-5 record. The team's success took a positive turn once the post season began, seeing two individuals finish highly in the state tournament. The Aces will look to continue this high level of play into the 2010 season.
The Aces will be returning a multitude of talented golfers to their roster this year, including state tournament runner up Greg Jarmas. Jarmas, entering his senior year, was injured for most of the 2009 regular season, but returned in time for the district qualifier. Once qualified, Jarmas rode a wave of success through the East Regional Tournament where he finished third, all the way to the state tournament where he took second place.

The girls' portion of the roster also has a distinct leader with junior Alex Liu. Liu also had an impressive post season last year with third place finishes in the district and regional tournaments, as well as a 12th-place finish in the state tournament. Other notable golfers to watch this season are Chris Jarmas, Brian Kraman and Jon Liu.
Coach Brian Feeney has laid out some distinct goals for the team, one of which is to win the Central League. Despite the high expectations, Feeney believes this team could take the league by surprise."This year's team has potential to be a contender in every match as our younger players are maturing and getting better," Feeney said.

He also noted the team's strength at the top as their biggest weapon, "Our lineup is strong through our top six or seven." Feeney said he would also like to see the team qualify for districts, which could be accomplished by a first place or second place finish in the Central League.
Coach Feeney's final season goal is to see the top seven golfers qualify for the individual Central League Tournament. "This will take a season long effort to manage their games and their scores," Feeney said.
With the season still in its early stages it's yet to be seen how this team will fair, but an early season win against Conestoga High School seems to have the team on track. Those looking to catch a glimpse of the Aces can see them at their home course at Centennial Golf Course of the Philadelphia Country Club. Their next home match is scheduled on Thursday Sept. 23 at 3 p.m.
