5K Trail Run for Thorncroft Set for August 29
This Race benefits Thorncroft an Equestrian Facility that helps people with disabilities enjoy the benefits of horseback riding

The second annual 5K Trail Run for Thorncroft takes place this Thursday Aug 29 6:30 P.M. at Thorncroft Equestrian Center in Malvern.
Money from the race will go to Thorncroft.
Established in 1969, the Thorncroft staff from day-one focused on making it possible for people with disabilities to improve their quality of life by riding horses.

“We began this race last year because we wanted to create an all abilities event where all our community could come out regardless of their physical or mental disabilities,” said Maddie Iacobucci, Thorncroft’s Media and Special Events Coordinator. “It is so people can see who we are and what we do. We make it a day about health and wellness which is what we base ourselves on.”
Thorncroft Director Sallie Dixon said that their goal is not to see how much money they can raise, rather it is about getting people to attend.

“Our goal is to have 200 people run the race and all their friends and family would come to the farm,” said Dixon. “It's for people who haven't been to our farm to come out and see it.”
Dixon discussed some Hallelujah stories that occurred at Thorncroft.
“Every day we have one,” said Dixon. “We had one boy with Autism who never spoke, but then he quietly began talking to his pony and then that night he had his first dinner conversation with his parents.”
Another factor that helps Thorcroft stand out is that all the riders, whether they have disabilities or not, must either help saddle up their horse before riding it and if they are unable to do that, then they have to help brush it. Thorncroft horses are usually never one-hundred percent ready for riders to just climb on.
“The horse is not a bicycle, it’s not a machine that you can just get on and get off,” said Dixon. “The time you spend in the barn with the horse brushing it, lets the horse get to know you.”
The race will feature vendors, food trucks, live music, and prizes.
