LOWER MERION, PA — A Delaware County burglary suspect fled police, crashed a Jeep in Lower Merion Township and then ran onto Lankenau Medical Center grounds, where he was arrested Thursday, authorities said.
The incident began in Delco's Springfield Township. Shortly before noon, a 911 caller reported two people burglarizing a home on the 600 block of Yale Avenue, according to Springfield Police.
The suspects fled in a white Jeep Grand Cherokee with a Delaware license plate, police said.
Haverford Police saw the Jeep traveling north on Township Line Road. The driver refused to stop, and the vehicle crashed into a pole at City and Lancaster avenues, police said.
Both men inside the Jeep tried to run, authorities said. A Haverford officer arrested one suspect near Wynnewood Avenue, while the other fled toward nearby Lankenau Medical Center.
Police stopped him near the hospital's helipad site and arrested him.
The suspects — a 26- and 27-year-old from Philadelphia — were charged with burglary and other offenses. Springfield Police withheld their names.
The incident brought a "significant police presence" to the crash site and the hospital, according to Lower Merion Police.
"During the incident, the Lower Merion Police Department assisted the Springfield Township Police Department (Delaware County) with the apprehension of two wanted individuals," the police department said. "Both individuals were taken into custody without incident, and there is no current threat to the public."
Springfield Police are investigating.
