Congress, State House Races Set For Lower Merion: See Who's Running

LOWER MERION, PA — With the primaries over, the candidate fields are taking shape for November's general elections.

Voters in Lower Merion will be among millions of Pennsylvanians deciding on a governor and State House representatives this fall. Meanwhile, midterm elections across the nation will shape the U.S. House of Representatives.

General Election Day is Nov. 3.

Here are the general-election fields in November:

GOVERNOR, LIEUTENANT GOVERNOR

• Josh Shapiro*, Austin Davis* (Democratic Party)
• Stacy Garrity, Jason Richey (Republican Party)

Of note: Richey defeated John Ventre in the Republican primary for lieutenant governor. Both governor races, and the Democratic primary for lieutenant governor, were uncontested.

U.S. HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES

Lower Merion Township is split between Pennsylvania's 4th and 5th congressional districts.

4th congressional district

• Madeleine Dean* (D)
• Aurora Stuski (R)

Of note: The district's electorate became more liberal in 2018, when the Pennsylvania Supreme Court redrew congressional district boundaries in a gerrymandering ruling. Dean was first elected to the seat later that year, when Democrats secured the House majority during President Donald Trump's first term.

Republicans have held majorities in the House and Senate throughout President Trump's second term.

5th congressional district

• Mary Gay Scanlon* (D)
• Nick Manganaro (R)

Of note: Like Dean, Scanlon was also first elected to her seat in 2018.

PENNSYLVANIA HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES

Lower Merion is divided between Pennsylvania's 148th and 149th legislative districts.

148th legislative district:

No Republicans filed to run. There's still a possibility of independent or third-party candidates, who must submit petitions to appear on the ballot by early August.

Of note: The Democratic Party holds the majority in the State House of Representatives, while the GOP has a State Senate majority.

• Tim Briggs* (D)

Of note: Briggs, a 17-year incumbent, was the only district's only primary candidate in either major party.
