PENN WYNNE, PA — The Penn Wynne neighborhood now has a café.
Village Cafe had a soft opening last week at the strip mall on Manoa Road, near Haverford Road. The owners — husband and wife Adam and Lydia — called it "our love letter to the community we call home."
"We're hoping to create a place that feels cozy, casual, welcoming and very neighborhood," they said on the business's Instagram page, "the kind of place where your coffee order gets remembered, neighbors become friends, and you might just stay a little longer than you planned."
It's a unique change for Penn Wynne — a heavily residential neighborhood in a sea of active Main Line commercial districts. But a civic group called Friends of Penn Wynne Village has been trying to cultivate a Manoa Road business district.
"We do this by fostering dialogue between residents, local organizations, and business owners," the organization says. "We work collaboratively to increase connectivity and walkability, organize community events, and beautify the streetscape to promote and maintain a welcoming, active village center."
The first-ever Penn Wynne Day is set for 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Oct. 10. During that time, several local businesses will offer discounts, samples and giveaways.
Village Cafe's listed hours are Tuesday through Saturday from 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Sundays from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.
